art is life

THE LCC ART PROGRAM

“Art is Life; Life is Art”
All creative activities in the art room can be applied to everyday use. Art and its process is cultivated as a transformative tool that our children can take with them where ever their lives lead them. Its daily function is to teach our clients to reduce stress, develop coping skills, cultivate empowerment, and to improve our student’s daily quality of life.
In the LCC Transformative Studio Art Programs children are introduced to activities that ignite their imagination and their creative abilities. The children in the “Art is Life; Life is Art” class are encouraged and guided to discover the personal power of their own creativity and the value of what that can teach them. The ultimate intention of the art program is to teach and reveal that art is a gift that is latent in everyone and that it has the ability to transform our lives as well as the potential to transform the world we live in.
Lincoln Child Centers Art Program objectives are four-fold. It develops the capacity for creative expression in clients who have been traumatized and vulnerable, increasing their sense of personal identity and pride. It provides gallery space and other exhibition opportunities for their work, thereby validating their art, enhancing their self-esteem and providing them with earnings for their personal use. It fosters socialization and inclusion at Lincoln and on art galleries and community events. It increases the public's understanding of the artistic ability our children as well as introduces our clients to the concepts and ideas of making Art as a profession or a hobby when they become adults.

¨ In realizing the power of their imagination our children start to understand and activate problem solving skills, healthy expression, accountability, and responsibility.
¨ The ART room is a therapeutic space where children feel safe and supported to expand the boundaries of their creative processes.
