Vision

THE PROGRAM
The children who come to Lincoln Child Center, often abused and neglected, have lived through physical and emotional traumas that have taken their young lives in very different directions. Lincoln Child Center helps children between the ages of six and fourteen work through their emotional problems, recover from their painful experiences and learn how to build a foundation for a bright and successful future.
The Lincoln Child Center offers a comprehensive network of individualized but integrated therapy, counseling, and educational programs that work together on various levels for the benefit of children and their families.
In the LCC Transformative Studio Art Programs children are introduced to activities that ignite their imagination and their creative abilities. The children in the “Art is Life; Life is Art” class are encouraged and guided to discover the personal power of their own creativity and the value of what that can teach them. The ultimate intention of the art program is to teach and reveal that art is a gift that is latent in everyone and that it has the ability to transform our lives as well as the potential to transform the world we live in.
¨ In realizing the power of their imagination our children start to understand and activate problem solving skills, healthy expression, accountability, and responsibility.
¨ The ART room is a therapeutic space where children feel safe and supported to expand the boundaries of their creative processes.

THE NEED
Most of the children that attend LCC are marginalized and the mainstream society has no awareness of their existence or their state of being. What we are proposing to do with the funding from the Air Borne Teacher Fund is to create an exhibition called “Art Transforming Lives.” The exhibition would travel around the community to various public spaces including museums, hospitals, and centers of business to ignite awareness and understanding of the LCC population.

THE EXHIBITION AND ART PROGRAM
Building Bridges
¨ The public art exhibition would create awareness and understanding within the community about the situation of children in LCC.
¨ The work would be exhibited in the community and possibly published on cards for the further development of the art program.

The hope
¨ Cultivate self-reflection in the participating students.
¨ For the students to build self-esteem through their art being received in the community
¨ For the students to feel connected to the community at large
